The Ultimate Queen-Inspired Party

With the release of Bohemian Rhapsody: The Movie, there is a reinvigoration of love for one of the most popular bands in the world. New fans are feverishly googling to find out more about Queen, and old fans are updating their iTunes playlists with the classics. If you love a themed party, then maybe a Queen-inspired is right up your alley.

You will have to spend some time in the preparation phase. Think about things like costumes. You could feature a tasty Freddie Mercury Cocktail.  Decorations and invitations are also things that could add something really cool, such as hanging up copies of record covers or posters with iconic lyrics from the classics.

Think about the type of food you will serve. While Freddie himself was born in Zanzibar, he grew up in India. So, you could start checking out great Indian recipes for catering parties, such as The King’s Tikka Masala Meatballs. When it comes to drinks, think about the era that Queen ruled? What drinks were the most popular? Or, what cocktails can you dream up named after different songs or band members? Personalised wine bottles are always fun too.

When it comes to putting a playlist together, rather than sticking purely with the band’s hits, you should branch out into groups who are inspired by Queen, or those bands that inspired Queen. There are bound to be a few golden oldies on there that can get a whole crowd bouncing.

When it comes to costumes, there is likely to be many, many Freddie’s so why not make it a friendly competition and have a few bottles on ice for the best costumes. Encourage people to think outside the box and create a costume based on a Queen song, such as Radio Ga Ga or perhaps Black and Red. Not everyone will want to dress up or have time to put together a costume, so for the slightly tamer guests, perhaps the option to sport a Freddie T-shirt for the evening along with the mustache will keep them with the theme. Alternatively, you could have a ‘mustache’ table, where everyone can pick up a mustache to be just like Freddie.

Finally, think about what kind of activities you want to have for guests. Are you going to have something like a little friendly competition of Queen trivia with a prize for the winning team, or do you want people to just enjoy the music for a bit of dancing? For decorations, you can design and print some banners filled with Queen lyrics or some of the iconic imagery from the band. You could even create a timeline of major events in the bands history that guests encounter as they enter the party. Whatever happens, make sure Bohemian Rhapsody is on the playlist… Is it even a Queen party without it?
