Dessert Dishes Beyond Ice Cream

Dessert is king of the culinary world, and it’s a dish we always look forward to, even when the main meal we’ve just stomached was a bit disappointing. You see, we all have a bit of a sweet tooth, and that sweet tooth deserves to be gratified every now and then – but not always with ice cream! It’s something we keep in the freezer for when we fancy a snack, need an easy dessert, or we’ve watched a sad movie and need a little bit of comfort. But there are so many other options.

So with that in mind, here are just a few ideas to keep in the pantry. Be sure to whip them up when you’re feeling a little indulgent in the evening!

Try No-Bake Dishes

The no-bakes of the dessert world can be quick and easy. They’re simple to put together and even easier to eat, seeing as you won’t have to wait for them to cool down or warm up a little! And when you’ve got a no bake item on your hands, you’re going to have a lot more luxury to sink your teeth into – a cheesecake that has a s’more base, cookies with delicate ingredients like peanut butter and dipping chocolate, lemon pies that have whipped cream layers – and that makes using the kitchen around you a lot easier!

You’ll look like a veritable culinary genius when you bring out a no bake dessert, as you won’t have had to wait for cooking times to complete, or for a skewer to come out clean when you poke it into the middle of the cake. Try going through this list first of all, to show off some of the heavy hitters in the no bake world? And hey, everyone has a fridge in their home to chill food out, and it’s much easier to use than an oven – so why not make good use of it?

Think of Italy

Italy is a place that’s famous for its delicious foods, so it only makes sense there’s going to be quite a few delicious desserts on offer as well. Why not look up some Italian recipes right now, to really get a grasp on the span of options you have here? Can you list off any Italian desserts you love right now? Maybe a bit or sorbet? Maybe some gelato? Maybe a simple pancake with a bit of nutella inside? Those are famous for being sold on Italian street corners!

To start off easy, why not try making a Polenta cake? It’s something that’ll ease you into becoming a dessert master, and it’ll still have all the moist and fruity flavors that’ll remind you of Southern Italy. Maybe you could try a delicious tiramisu? It might be a bit different to the usual Neapolitan ice cream you like to dig into, but it’s going to be a worthy stray away from it! And you’ll be able to make this one first, to make sure all the flavors are mixed together in time for after you’ve finished dinner.

Get Fruity

An apple pie, some apple and cinnamon crunch, a banana bread with a bit of custard, some strawberry crepes, a pineapple upside down cake… and these are just a few simple dishes you could probably whip up off the top of your head! If you’ve got a fruit bowl that’s filled to the brim with treats, but is still a little neglected by your household, make sure you’re baking them into your desserts.

Fruit is a big part of the dessert world, considering the amount of sugar and spice even a single apple can bring to a dish that’s sorely lacking in flavor. And the more fresh fruits you managed to pack into a simple pie or cheesecake, the better you’ll feel about gobbling it up with a smile on your face! They still count as part of your five a day, even when they’re glazed in honey or encased in puff pastry that has a lovely homely taste to it.

If you’re someone who’s getting bored of the usual suspects when it comes to the dessert scene, make sure you’re branching out this year. After all, you’ll be hard pressed to find a dessert delivery service when you need something sugary to complete your meal, so you’re going to have to learn how to make them all yourself!
